The Isle of Luing Community Garden project will develop a community garden that includes essential infrastructure such as drainage systems, site clearance, hardstanding, raised beds, polytunnels, gardening equipment, seeds, and bulbs.
This project aims to transform a currently derelict piece of land into a vibrant space for local food production and community engagement.
The work will be overseen by a dedicated steering group under the Isle of Luing Community Trust, with active participation from local volunteers.
This project will be a step on our Carbon Neutral Island plan, reducing further our reliance in bought in produce and reducing food miles.
More effective marketing and more efficient operations by adding fruit and vegetables to our existing use of local meat and locally caught seafood in or Community Trust owned cafe at The Atlantic Islands Centre in Cullipool.
Offering the garden to local people to cultivate gives a valuable option for health and recreation. Working together to plan grow and harvest food give a social space for all ages to come together and an opportunity to reach out more to local schools and communities around gardening and growth.
