Proposal code: AP-2025-02-13

Refurbishment of Church Building to act as extension to village hall by a short link, with self sustaining energy, for Lochgair village residents and wider Loch Fyne community.

Estimated Price

350000

The project is needed because the existing church building is in poor structural condition and the materials introduced at the end of the 20th century were not as originally used and require restoring. Also a multipurpose facility is required to create a much more functional, inviting, comfortable and energy efficient space for the village and surrounding communities.

Evidence includes structural survey and signatures of support for the project from surrounding areas including Port Ann, Furnace, Lochgilphead, Inveraray, Minard, Kilmartin, Kilmichael, Ford, Slockavullin, Dunaad, Cairnbaan, Achnamara, Crarae, Ardrishaig, Tayvallich, Arduaine, Tarbert, Achahoish, Crinan, Ardfern and Bridgend.

The benefits will promote physical and mental well being of communities, through community arts, culture, sports, recreation and education, teaching modern skills and a safe place. These are undertaken in a small way in the present village hall and it is anticipated that participation will be able to expand from a present 40 people to about 100 people. Also the church building structure will be saved for the future. It is anticipated that the works will considerably reduce the running costs for the combined hall using insulation, solar panels and low tech hydro energy production.

The project duration is expected to be 18 months with an estimated start date of September 2025. The estimated cost is approximately £350,000 with capital required.
