Proposal code: AP-2025-02-11

We want to better support volunteering in Helensburgh and Lomond with a volunteer co-ordinator to match volunteers, co-ordinate joint volunteering projects and to raise the profile of volunteering

Estimated Price

70000

A vast amount and range of essential and life-enhancing services and activites are provided by volunteers across Helensburgh and Lomond. We know volunteering is a win,win - Volunteer Scotland estimates that volunteering contributes more than £5 billion to the Scottish economy (national voluneering profile 2022), and there is ample research on the benefits of volunteering to the individual whether it's reducing loneliness, supporting good mental health, learning new skills or helping get into work. But while demand for volunteers is growing volunteer numbers are declining (SCVO sector tracker summer/autumn 2024 and Volunteer Scotland 2022 national volunteering profile).

We need a dedicated volunteer co-ordinator who will work with volunteer involving organisations (VIOs) across Helensburgh and Lomond to ensure someone who wants to volunteer finds the right role rather than just the first one they see thus helping with retention; to co-ordinate flexible micro-volunteering opportunities to suit people's lifestyles eg a garden gang supporting organisations with small outdoor spaces, to support VIOs with good volunteering practice, and to raise the visbility and value of volunteers in the wider community.

We want to fund a Helensburgh and Lomond-wide volunteer co-ordinator for an initial 3-year project with the aim of further funding the post beyond 3 years.
