Summary

Bogleha’ Bowling Club, Dunoon are an inclusive Bowling Club open to people of all ages and abilities. We need to repair the green to allow the Club to maintain a good playing surface.

Description

1.Club aims to replace the turf and wooden edges around of the green, replace existing rotten timber with recycled plastic lumber, replace worn turf and top dress the area.  These improvements  will enable Bogleha’ to continue to maintain membership and attract visitors to play at the Club.

2. Why is your project needed?

Bogleha’ BC (established 1923) comprises of a Lawn Bowling Green with Club House, kitchen facilities and Bar. Bogleha’ Bowling Club is a Member Club and operates under the rules and guidelines of ‘Bowls Scotland' whos main aim is to promote Bowls in a safe environment. The committee has a responsibility to maintain the Club assets AND protect the players from harm. The Bowling Green  must conform to National Rules -Boundaries must be in a safe condition  and the Lawn should level.  In order to conform, maintenance work requires to be done .

The Club Bowling green and the Clubhouse are interdependent , so the maintenance of the green will continue to encourage players and spectators to use the facilities.  Any profit made by the Club is re-invested to improve the facilities which in turn benefits the wider community who wish to use the Hall to host events/hold parties etc.  These  events benefit the local community as many participants and visitors use local accomodation and catering businesses.

Bowling is a safe sport for all abilities and ages and brings the positive benefit of enjoying the outdoors,  reducing stress , meeting new people and encouraging a sense of community

The project will be started at the end of the current bowling season - Autumn 2025 and would be completed  within 2 weeks (weather permitting). The members will be encouraged to assist the contractor to keep the cost of work down and to gain some knowledge and new skills (turfing, re-seeding,carpentry)- they will also have the satisfaction of being part of the  improvement of the playing facilities
