The Oban Men’s Shed was established about 12 years ago, it was housed within the Salvation Army in Stevenston Street. Unfortunately since they left the town our facility has been homeless.
The purpose of the Shed in the Shelter (formally the Oban Men’s Shed) is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well being of men and women of all ages and backgrounds living in Oban and surrounding areas.
Our purpose it to, develop and maintain a facility, namely a Shed in the Shelter. Is offering opportunities for men and women in the Oban area to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice.
Reducing isolation of men and women in the area thus contributing to their physical and mental well-being. Developing the capacity of men and women in the Oban area to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community.
While mainly aimed at residents living within Oban, those living within a reasonable commute of Oban would be eligible to join as members.
We still have all our equipment in storage such as wood lathe, metal lathe wood planer and thicknesser plus many other machines. So we could outfit a workshop from day one.
