Proposal code: AP-2026-03-166

A phased rejuvenation of Geilston Hall will protect its heritage while creating a dynamic, adaptable space for all ages, ensuring the hall thrives as a true community hub.

Estimated Price

440000

1. We aim to expand the use of Geilston Hall by creating a more dynamic, flexible and welcoming community space.  To achieve this we will undertake a phased programme of sympathetic repairs and rejuventation to the hall and its surrounding grounds.  This will allow us to protect the building's heritage, supporting our current hall users access, while enabling a wider range of community based activities, events and social opportunities.

2.  Each project stage will strengthen the hall’s physical structure and its role within the community.  Geilston Hall is a much loved local asset, but its current condition limits its use and long term sustainability.  Our Local Place Plan survey showed villagers see the hall as a much‑loved community asset, central to village life and want it to thrive.  By revitalising the building we can ensure it remains a flexible, accessible space supports groups of all ages and interests for generations to come.

3.  Restoring and upgrading the hall will secure its future as a community cornerstone and protect its unique heritage.  A brighter, more adaptable space will allow us to host a wide range of activities, helping reduce isolation and strengthen social connections, which are particularly important in a village setting.  The project will enhance wellbeing, support local identity and provide a vibrant hub for community life.

4. This is a long term project which we expect to run 5years+ due to complex nature of repair and restoration of a historically significant listed building.  We will work closely with our specialist architectural advisers to develop a clear and achieveable plan of works.  Key partner in this will incude collaboration with Historic Environment Scotland, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, as well as other local Trusts.   Delivering the project in carefully planned stages will ensure the work is manageable for our committee and carried out with minimal disruption to current hall users.
