Cafaidh Blasta- Taste of Gaelic
•Proposal code: AP-2025-08-161
Cooking up jobs, skills, and Gaelic heritage at the heart of Islay’s community.
Estimated Price
220000
The Gaelic Language and Culture Centre on Islay is a vital hub for preserving, promoting, and celebrating Gaelic heritage. It not only offers cultural and educational activities but also acts as a gathering space for the local community and visitors alike.
At present, the kitchen facilities are limited in scale and capacity. The Centre seeks to extend and modernise its kitchen in order to increase its ability to host community events, training programmes, and visitor services.
Proposed Changes
- Extend the kitchen to meet commercial standards including additional cooking, refrigeration and storage facilities.
- A fully equipped kitchen will allow the Centre to host Gaelic-themed workshops such as traditional baking and cookery, tying food heritage into the broader cultural mission.
- The project fills a gap by offering a central, high-capacity facility to service our onsite cafe which is accessible to local people as well as visitors.
- To create new jobs within the Centre's catering department.
The project is designed to be self-sustaining, ensuring long-term viability.
