Isle of Jura Playground

Proposal code: AP-2025-06-150

We would like to refurbish our local community playground by replacing some of the older, tired equipment which would transform the area and the benefits will be felt by local and visiting families.

Estimated Price

60000

Our community playground was opened in 1996 and some of the original equipment is still present; although showing their age and we feel they are now beyond repair and sadly need replaced. We would like to raise funds to cover the purchase and installation of some new playground equipment, most prominently 2 climbing units; 1 for younger children, aged up to 7 years old and one for children up to 12 years.

The original climbing units are generally quite worn, in need of repairs and were further damaged during storm Eowyn. This is all costly to repair and visually detrimental. At this point, we feel the best decision would be to replace the damaged equipment completely ensuring safety standards.

As the only public playground on jura it is an essential, neutral, safe and enclosed space for families to socialise, play, connect and run around. We would like the opportunity to breathe new life into it and allow it to reach its full potential. Playgrounds are brilliant spaces to meet new people and form connections. Helping to combat isolation; often felt by new parents. We would like the playground to be a hive of social activity; encouraging interaction between local and visiting families – creating lifelong connections.

New equipment will encourage more visitors to the park; by creating a more enticing visual impression and will allow for families to be content to stay for longer. Overall this project will help to increase the children’s opportunity to socialise with other children (both local and visiting) as well as the parents/guardians, expanding their social circle which helps to overcome isolation within small rural islands
