Geilston Hall, a B listed building, is at the start of a restoration plan which has identified as a priority the renewal of its failing roof, due to significant water damage which places restrictions on hall use. Our restoration plan is to undertake the work in phases with a number of funding partners, volunteers and identified suppliers to initially renew the iconic tower roof, main roof with rooflights and associated leadwork, eaves and associated masonry. A key element is to undertake this work with conservation and preservation of the halls architectural heritage which requires specialist project management and suppliers. Primary planning works has engaged a conservation architect, with our next requirement being the appointment of a quantity surveyor to prepare feasibility cost plans as a key element of the project planning. Supportive funding is required to continue planning; costing and sourcing suppliers and materials to meet the listed building status planning requirements and those of our Historic Scotland partnerships.
The Geilston Hall is more than a village hall, it’s where the Cardross Community comes together for its social connections, youth groups providing volunteering opportunities; offering health and wellbeing through its fitness, dance and archery classes as well as the economic benefits. Providing a fit for purpose space for after-school clubs and the dance academy both small businesses. The hall is the home of Cardross Community Council which ensures that community led priorities are at the forefront of our links to local councillors and council officials. A base for community consultations and our community's polling centre.
The hall is a historically important building to Cardross and Scottish architecture which we believe should be preserved for future generations to enjoy and utilise well into the 21st Century. Bringing the right partners with these credentials to our project will ensure sympathetic and structurally sound works are undertaken which will protect the hall from further damage and ensure its year round use. The most important aspect of these works is to have the hall in use, to generate income, to reinvest into the hall as the community drives its use and enjoys it heritage.
This initial application is to aid the finalisation of establishing the extent of all repair works, surveying, costing and therefore establishing a robust base line on which the Committee can set all future funding and supportive partnerships on to achive this new chapter for the hall. Thank you for taking the time to read our aspirations for our our hall and our community. Please enjoy watching the first phase of our improvements, which was to our outdoor space, which has been enjoyed throughout the summer and spring months by our hall user groups and the wider community.
