Community Mini Bus for Head of Loch Fyne
•
Proposal code: AP-2025-06-140
Mini bus to enable better access to childcare facility at Cairndow and improve transport links for the surrounding community.
Estimated Price
40000
- What do you want to do? This project is to fund and run a community mini bus based at Cairndow Childcare to enable more children to access the centre particularly after school and in school holidays. It would also be used for excursions for the children and young people based at the centre. The Mini Bus would also be made available to the surrounding community to meet transport and activities needs.
- Why is your project needed? We have an excellent facility located at the head of Loch Fyne, but as the main primary schools are located in Inveraray, Strachur and Lochgoilhead, accessing the centre for after school and holiday activities for the older age group has proved difficult to achieve due to transport issues. There is also a need within the local community for a shared transport option to facilitate hospital visits, day to day needs of non-car owners and community activities and excursions.
- What positive changes will your project bring about?
As public transport in the area is sparse and can be haphazard having a reliable, local transport system in place would enable the community to ensure those without cars (mainly the young and the old) are not restricted by their location. It will make the area a more attractive prospect for people wanting to move to our community and build links between our communities and others.
- How long will your project run for?
Stage one of the project, for which we are seeking funding would take 3 to 4 months (purchase of vehicle, insurance, establishing team of drivers, maintenance programme). Thereafter the mini bus would be managed by Cairndow Community Childcare which has a track record for successfully managing facilities in the area. The project could start whenever funding is secured.
