Why is your project needed?
The recently developed Jura Community Action Plan (CAP), aims to paint a vision for Jura, list the priorities for actions identified by the community, identify initial actions for each priority area and assist the community being ready for opportunities when they arise. 'Investing in Jura' was seen as a priority topic for the community. Facility upgrades and investment in community infrastructure and equipment are needed to better support visitors and the local community. Current issues cited in the CAP included; lack of community owned equipment for shared use, lack of storage for community equipment, lack of signposts helping people find facilities, businesses and activities and poorly managed visitor flows, causing issues with waste and overcrowding.
What positive changes will your project bring about?
By investing in community owned equipment, creating community storage, designing and creating signage, installing shelters, improving visitor infrastructure and information and improving access to these facilities would transform Jura into more welcoming, accessible, and community-oriented destinations. The delivery of these investments will be through working with other community organisations such as the Jura Community Council, Jura’s Playground Association, Jura Amateur Dramatics, local businesses, Jura Music Festival and Jura Juniors. Infrastructure and equipment investment will take place across the whole of Jura, not just focussing on one area. Experience shows that when the facility and infrastructure requirements of the community are met, they start flourish. Recent examples large scale projects include the roll out of Broadband across the Island and the Community Business Units both are utilised to grow and support the community and its visitors.
How long will your project run for?
'Investing in Jura' is ongoing but short time frame allowed for fund spending will allow the purchase and placement of a significant number of capital items for the community and its visitors. Purchase and instalment would take place between September 2025 and April 2026.
