1 We have identified four activities that we want to complete by the end of 2025. This will continue us on our path to build a resilient and sustainable shore station at Hynish.
- We have identified electrical work that is required to ensure we are meeting out goal of low carbon energy efficiency on the site.
- We have some immediate building work We would like to repair a chimney/roof that has been leaking for some time causing damage to two of our buildings. We have moved our Exhibition to another buliding to free up the multi purpose hall for community use. However the skylights in the Exhibition building are leaking and need replaced.
- We would like to invest in a high quality wooden floor for our multi purpose hall. Ceildh dancing is very much part of our culture and as a community this is key to most of our events and celebrations. Our hall requires a new floor and we would like to invest in a wooden floor.
- We have internal and external painting work to be done across the site
2 In February 25 the community became the owners of the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station at Hynish. It has 20+ A listed buildings all in various states of repair. We are undertaking a series of projects to repurpose, upgrade and refurbish all these buildings. It is key that we build resilience and sustainability into everything that we do. These 4 activities will take us futher down our path and allow us to run the site more cost effectively.
3 The electrical work will positively add to the work we have already done to try to make our buildings more energy efficient. We are keen to embrace the green agenda and contribute in every way we can. This work will save running costs for the charity and at the same time improve our contribution towards the climate change crisis. The repairs to the chimney and rooflights will stop water ingress that is causing damage to the buildings and potentially to our exhibition. The ongoing maintenance will also be easier and cheaper as a result of this buildilng work. A new floor in our multi purpose hall will allow us to attract a range of cultural events which will bring the community together and provide the charity with a revenue stream. It is important the floor is of this standard to allow us to have ceilidhs. This will keep the traditions and local heritage alive.
4 This work can commence in september and be completed by December 25. Hynish Trust would provide accommodation for all work that requires contractors from off island. Volunteers will complete the internal painting works and some of the external painting work. This will be our contribution.
