1  Hynish Trust took over community ownership of the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station in February 25 and they have been reviewing their 20+ buildings on the site to look at repurposing them to ensure there is a sustainable and resilient future for the community, the site and the organisation.  Hynish Trust would like to convert Morton Boyd Cottage (A listed)  into a hub and accommodation.  We require to fund the design phase of this project to take us to being shovel ready in 2026.  This will involve architect, specialists and quantity surveyors to complete the key stages of design.  We plan to apply for funding from Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland to fund the building costs which we would aim to start early in 2026.

2  Hynish Trust wants to grow the economy on Tiree and in particular in their part of the island.  They want to do this by providing office and meeting facilities, wifi, storage, a visitor centre and accomodation.  This hub will create employment for at least one full time member of staff and give our team of volunteers a place to meet and work.  This will contributre to making the cost of doing business at Hynish and in the community more effective.  We want to adapt our historic building sympathetically making it an energy efficient space in line with our low carbon objectvies for tackling climate emergency on our site.  This hub will build community capacity in an area with no current facilites.  It will provided much needed accommodation that will attract people to come and live/work at Hynish.  Visitors to the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station currently have nowhere to go to find out about the site.  It is important for us to have a focal information point.

3  Hynish Trust believe that changing the use of this property will bring really positive change to the area and to the site.  The Trust is developing its team and needs a base from which they can operate.  It needs storage for files and exhbition artifacts.  The hub will provide a positive and professional welcome to visitors to the site where they can access more information and ask questions.  We hope to operate a small shop and be an information point for Tiree.  There is no tourist information point on the island so this will be a welcome place for visitors/tourists.  Finally we will have accommodation for permanent staff.

4  We would hope to start the design phase of the project in September and be completed by mid December.
