The improvement to the playing surface will future proof the surface and enhance the playing experience to both members and visitors, and hopefully assist us to increase our membership.

1. Oban bowling club is a long standing lawn bowling club situated in the centre of Oban which has served our community since 1869. Our aim is to improve the playing surface by obtaining our own machinery to allow us to carry out regular aeration to the playing surface.
2. We recognise that climate change bringing predominately wetter conditions, coupled with a lack of funds to purchase our own machinery has resulted in the playing surface suffering through compaction and a build up of thatch and moss, which in turn contributes to a highly acidic soil which negatively impacts on nutrient uptake and microbial activity.
3. By bringing this maintenance in-house utilising member volunteers which will require learning new skills, we aim to promote healthy activity across all age groups to those members who wish to participate, but more importantantly we hope by improving the playing surface which in effect is making it faster, requiring less effort from players, promotes greater inclusivity especially to elderly members and our hope to attract a younger membership.
